The Renovation Journey

  • Product: Wundafloor
  • Area: Open plan kitchen diner and utility room (50m2)
  • Days: 2-3 Days

When Holly, the creative force behind the popular Instagram account @holly_homestyle embarked on her fifth home renovation, she knew it was time to finally embrace underfloor heating. Her 1940s property’s kitchen and utility room were undergoing a full transformation — walls came down, ceilings were replaced, and the space was reimagined

“Kicking myself it’s taken 5 renovations to install underfloor heating, particularly now I know how easy it is to install (it’s always been such a grey area for me).” – Holly

Kitchen & Dining Room Knock Through

To create the open plan living space Holly wanted, the wall separating the dining room and the kitchen was demolished and replaced with steel beams.

The new floor area required a levelling screed to ensure the uneven floor heights revealed after the wall removal were ready for the Wunda Rapid Response Boards.

In addition a liquid damp proof membrane was applied to the whole area.

DIY Installation Made Simple

While Holly handled much of the installation herself, professional help was brought in for key tasks:

  • Pressure Testing
  • Manifold Installation
  • Boiler Connection

This hybrid approach ensured both safety and performance, while keeping the project personal, budget friendly and hands-on.

“You guys were so helpful, especially with knowing what we needed under and over the system for different types of flooring, thank you!” – Holly

Tile or Wood ?

After much deliberation Holly decided to on porcelain stone effect tiles.

Tile and natural stone floors work perfectly with underfloor heating as they are natural conductors. One thing to keep in mind however is that the  thickness of the chosen surface can effect the heat up time and the cool down time.

If rapid heat up and cool down times are important to you it’s best to avoid very thick natural stone.
