Carpet and Rugs with Underfloor Heating

Carpets and rugs can be used with underfloor heating. But it is important to remember that as they are usually insulators, there are some limitations to the type of carpet or rug you choose. A floor finish that is an insulator will resist the rising heat and could stop it from coming through the floor into your room.

It’s always best to check with your supplier if their product is suitable for use with underfloor heating, but if you have any carpet related underfloor heating questions then feel free to get in touch. It is advised that 2.5 is the max tog rating of both the carpet and underlay, for reference Persian rugs are often 1.9 tog.

How To Lay Laminate Flooring

Installing Underfloor Heating with Carpet Flooring

If you are using the Wunda Rapid Response® system with carpet as your floor finish, you will be provided with duo boards for each area you are carpeting, along with the rest of your system. The duo board is placed on top of the Rapid Response® panel and then the carpet is laid on top of the duo board.

Underfloor Heating Energy Efficiency

Radiator systems are the 20th century equivalent of a fireplace. They need your boiler or heat pump to supply  hot water temperatures (60-80 degrees) so that they can emit heat into the room.

Water based Underfloor heating works differently, it is like having a huge radiator spread out beneath your floor. Underfloor heating can cover the entire floor space allowing it to use much lower water temperatures (35-45 degrees) to transmit heat throughout the room, making it the go to energy efficient and sustainable system of choice.
